Often, because my husband and I are in ministry, people think we know some secret…that we are privy to the inside scoop…that God shares the secret recipe to a great life with those who dedicate themselves to ministry. Those of you in ministry know exactly what I’m talking about. You know people who believe that you have access to info they don’t have access to…that you have special insider info that, when you share it with them over a cup of coffee, they could apply that secret recipe and “cook up” a great life.

I spend a good bit of time leading and speaking to women, and our team puts a great deal of time, thought, prayer, and work into discipling and teaching these women God’s truth and God’s ways. Here’s what I tell folks when they ask about the “secret” to living a “happy” life…when they search for the “inside scoop” about finding fulfillment in parenting, marriage, or any other area of life…when they yearn for the “secret recipe” for well-adjusted teenagers…when they desperately seek “God’s will” for their situation. I’ll tell you exactly what I tell them.

Now, read carefully…get your highlighter out…you’re gonna want to tweet this…here’s the big secret…

DO THE RIGHT THING. Yep, there it is. It just isn’t that tricky, is it? What’s God’s will for my life? How do I rear kids who love God? What do I do about my lifeless marriage? Doing the right thing isn’t always that EASY, but it is, for the most part, that SIMPLE. More often than not, our challenge is not KNOWING the right thing…our challenge is actually DOING the right thing. 95 times out of 100, we know the right thing…we know what God wants us to do…we struggle, though, with the obedience part…with actually DOING the right thing. Every so often, we face a situation that requires more prayer, thought, and counsel. But, most often, we face situations that simply require the strength and fortitude to obey…the willingness and the determination to DO THE RIGHT THING when it’s inconvenient, unpopular, nonsensical, uncomfortable, or even painful.

Every person, every marriage, every family is different…every situation is unique. That’s where the miraculous practicality and universality, the transcendence of Scripture come into play. No matter the situation…here’s the answer…

* LEAN IN Lean into God. It’s through a relationship with Jesus that you’ll draw close to your

Creator God…close enough to hear His whisper and direction.

* DIVE IN Dive in – and roll around in – His Word. Read & study the Bible.

It’s through Scripture that God reveals His vision & design for your life.

* LIVE IN Live in the joy, hope, and peace that God desires for you! It’s through living

obediently…living life according to God’s Word…that you’ll discover what Jesus

meant when He said, “I have come that you may have life, and have it to the full.”

God created us. God loves us. And God knows how things work best…I’m glad He didn’t keep it a secret, aren’t you?
