I Will Rejoice!

Mother Theresa once said, “I know God will not give me anything I can’t handle. I just wish that He didn’t trust me so much.”

As a homeschooling mom of 4 children under the age of 10 and the co-pastor of our church, I can absolutely relate!

There have been times when life has seemed really hectic. Being a mother and running a household is a full time job!  Add planting a church or homeschooling or any other responsibility and it can be overwhelming.  For us, but not God!  He ALWAYS has a plan.  He is ALWAYS on time.  He has total and complete peace about our life because He is expecting us to NOT do it alone.

I believe one of the enemy’s greatest tactics is to get us distracted and busy.  As women, we are wired so that one area of our life can easily affect the others.  This can cause us to be anxious, fearful or just feel like we have “more than we can handle.”

The truth about this form of thought is even when we feel that way, GOD is still GOD! Sometimes we don’t even realize how much our attitude and outlook on life can affect us.  It can be so easy sometimes to blame others for our fear, anger, or any challenges we might be facing.

God gave us a free choice to choose how we would respond to life. The other day God gave me a very simple scripture that really spoke to me.

Psalms 118:24 – “This is the day the LORD has made; We WILL rejoice and be glad in it!”

As I reflected on this scripture I smiled, not because of anything particular about the “day.”  It was the shift in my thoughts to completely surrender and focus on HIM, his splendor, his sovereignty that created the world!  I didn’t jump up and down, but it caused me to pause in reverence and awe of his presence.  I just love those moments!

In HIS presence is when everything else seems to melt away.  The challenges don’t go away.  It’s in that moment when we CHOOSE to focus on HIM that two things happen: Our circumstance changes or He changes us!

Just like the scripture says, “I WILL rejoice,” not I might, but there is a choice to be made that says “I WILL” regardless of what’s going on in our life.

He is my source of JOY.  He is my source of PEACE.

Choose to REJOICE!  Choose to focus on HIM!  To lift your head, lift your eyes, lift your hands toward the heavens.  In HIS presence is where you are fully equipped to do those things that are ahead of you and everything HE has called you to be!
