I Will Remember

I do love Christmas! But I’m not the greatest gift giver. I gte distracted easily… particularly when I’m extremely excited about something… like, let’s stay, Christmas. One year I was very excited about my gift for my husband. Christmas morning, he opened a great pair of slippers… I knew he loved them. I was feeling pretty good about myself and my gift… then I walked into our closet and saw another pair of the exact same slippers! This pair had obviously been worn. Yep… I had given him the exact same slippers last year. Actually, I’m pretty sure I gave him those slippers three years in a row. How did that happen? How did I forget? I bought them each time, and when I saw them in the closet, I remembered. But in all of the excitement and chaos, I simply FORGOT.

Perhaps you’ve never unknowingly given someone the exact same gift several years in a row, but we all fight the Christmas crazies and the holiday hubbub. We quickly get distracted with the celebration details and FORGET what… or whom… we are celebrating! We KNOW and BELIEVE that Christmas is a celebration of the birth of the Savior… the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords… a celebration of hope, joy, and peace. But, so often, our holidays are filled instead with stress, anxiety, and chaos. We KNOW and BELIEVE the truth, but we simply FORGET.

In the Old Testament, God commanded- yes, COMMANDED– the Israelites to celebrate certain feasts and festivals every year. God commanded annual celebrations because He knows His people. God rescused the Israelites from slavery, parted the Red Sea so that they could pass to safety, protected them in the wilderness, and eventually delivered the Promised Land to them. They KNEW and BELIEVED that God had saved them. The Psalmist says that they celebrated God and sang his praise. But if we keep reading…

“But they soon forgot what he had done, and did not wait for his plan to unfold…
…They forgot the God who saved them, who had done great things in Egypt, miracles in the land of Ham and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.”

Psalm 106:13, 12&22

God knows how certainly we can KNOW something… how deeply we can BELIVE something… and just how quickly we can FORGET. We can KNOW in our heads and BELIEVE in our hearts that Jesus is the KING OF KINGS, and that Christmas is a celebration of His birth. And we so quickly forget.

Unless… unless we make the conscious decision to REMEMBER!

“Lord, I will remember what you did. Yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will spend time thinking about everything you have done. I will consider all of your mighty acts.”

Psalm 77:11,12

Decide RIGHT NOW… that throughout the holidays and all of your days… that you will KNOW, BELIEVE, and REMEMBER that Jesus is the KING OF KINGS and the LORD OF LORDS! When you KNOW, BELIEVE, and REMEMBER, your Christmas celebration is sure to be filled with hope, joy, and peace… and lots more FUN!

From all of the ARC Women…. we wish you a very Merry Christmas as we REMEMBER and CELBRATE the birth of our Savior!
