My 40th birthday was a milestone for me. For months leading up to my birthday, I kept thinking that my first 40 years were great but what would the next be like. I realized quickly that life is not over after 40. The best is still ahead! Turning 40 didn’t mean that the Lord was finished with me.
Whether you’re 16 or 60, God has more for you and He wants you to live in your purpose everyday There’s so much talk today about purpose and living out your dream. People go to great lengths to find their purpose and accomplish their dreams: attending seminars, conferences and counseling. As a matter of fact, there are thousands of books that have been written on finding your purpose.
But before we talk about what purpose is, let me tell you what purpose is not.
Purpose is not found in striving. This can be so hard for us because we want to strive to BE something or find value IN SOMETHING instead of just being who He has called us to be. We have to come to a place where we are settled with who we are in Christ.
Purpose is not found in a title. We aren’t just moms, daughters, nurses, lawyers. Purpose is so much more than what we do. Purpose is in who we are! We can’t hide behind our titles.
Purpose is not given to just the who’s who in Christendom. God has a purpose for all of us. We can’t compare ourselves to anyone else. God wants you to be you. You’re enough. In fact, you’re more than enough! At the end of the day, you’re as smart as you need to be, talented as you need to be, tall as you need to be, skinny as you need to be, gifted as He needs you to be. Just relax and be you! You’re amazing!
I love to know secrets! I hate when my kids tell Dino a secret in front of me because I feel left out and get upset. I’ll drive them crazy until they tell me. I think sometimes we feel like our purpose is a big secret and God doesn’t want to let you in on it, that He’s hiding it from you! But He’s not. It’s really simple!
Okay, so, do you want to know the secret to living in your purpose and dream? Are you ready? Okay, here it goes… The secret to living in your purpose is simply to love God & love people! That’s it! It’s so simple! The secret is out of the bag! Tell your neighbor! Love God & Love People!
Mark 12: 30-31 says: “And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with your entire mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Ephesians 1:11-12 remind us that, “It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, He had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone!”
The ultimate purpose for us all is to love God and love people! Sure, He has specific dreams He’s given each of us, but we are all called to love Him & people!
Here are just a few secrets to living in your purpose:
1. Completely trust and obey.
I love the story of Mary where the angel Gabriel came to her and told her she would have a son and His kingdom will be no end. And Mary said, “Let it be to me according to your Word.” Whoa! That’s amazing! If it could just be that easy, right? But it is that easy! We all need to live in that simple obedience!
2. Love God and love His Word extravagantly.
We know we need to love God with all our heart, mind, soul & strength. To completely love God is to love Him with everything, every part of us.
3. Enjoy your life.
Proverbs 15:5 says, “A miserable heart means a miserable life. A cheerful heart fills the day with song.” To live in your purpose of loving God & people, you must enjoy your life. Be happy! Choose each day to enjoy your life! Let’s get past the feelings and emotions because they will rule your life if you let them. I encourage you to change your mindset. Don’t just “make it through” everything. Let’s flourish & enjoy our days!
4. Share your life with others.
I love the quote “A life worth living is a life lived for others!” How true is that! Remember that the Lord gave you His life, so we need to give our life for others.
Today, I encourage you to let go of the things that keep you from living your dreams. Walk in obedience, love the Lord and love His Word, choose daily to enjoy life, and make sure you share your life with others!
