Has there ever been a time when you wished you could just fast-forward through the current season of your life? I remember so many moments when I felt like I was barely surviving and simply clung to the hope that the season would soon be over.  From raising children to planting a church, some seasons were so challenging that I simply wished them away. When my children were little, I longed for the day when they would become independent (Hello? Can we please move on from these diapers?!). As a church planter, the early days were times of great sacrifice and never-ending work, with what sometimes seemed like meager results. Looking back now, I realize I was wishing away some of the most important seasons of my life!

It’s all about perspective! Here are a couple quick thoughts about perspective:

PAUSE. We’ve all been told that life goes by quickly, but do we really take that to heart? Do we slow down to treasure the moments God gives us? I think in life, even in each day, God places sweet moments and miracles around us. But sometimes we are so focused on looking for that next season that we miss them. They are right in front of us! Pause, and enjoy the season of life you are in. Often we slip into the next season so softly that we don’t even recognize the transition, so capture each moment. You can never get that time back!

PURPOSE. Remember that it is in the journey that we become strong. Not all seasons of life are fun, but in every season there is purpose (Ecclesiastes 3:1). God never promised that we wouldn’t have difficult times in this life, but He did promise that He would never leave us or forsake us!  Difficult seasons often refine our character. Enduring these seasons can prepare us for what God wants to do through us (Romans 5:3-4). He will always give you the strength to accomplish whatever he has called you to do. Keep your eyes focused on your purpose so when those tough seasons come, you will not be overwhelmed because you know your mission!

PLAN. It’s not always easy, or even possible, to see the “master plan” when you are smack dab in the middle of a difficult season. It’s so tempting to overlook the larger lessons to be learned when the tedious tasks before us seem never-ending. We must remember to be faithful with what God has entrusted us. To truly be capable of that we must embrace each season and yield our hearts to His plan. He does always have a plan!

Learning to change your perspective can take time, but we can also pause right now, in this moment, to acknowledge our season. Take the time today to thank God for where he has you, for blessing you in your current season, and for giving you the endurance for the journey. Today, yield your heart to Him and to His plan for each season of your life!
