A Note from Dino Rizzo – January 2019
Just recently, I was in a conversation with my pastor, Chris Hodges, talking about goals for 2019. One of the biggest goals that stuck out to us was the idea of making this a year of joy. Like true joy! Pastor Chris actually declared a year of joy over the church during our Christmas services at Church of the Highlands – and that’s the same thing I’m declaring over our ARC churches, pastors, staff, and team. 2019 is the year of joy!
I love how Isaiah 61 says Jesus came to give us “the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.” Wow! What a powerful exchange He offers us. How do we go about embracing it?
Many of you know the old school acronym for JOY: Jesus, Others, Yourself. As we align our hearts with Jesus’ and think of others before ourselves, true joy will be ours.
We all know that happiness is based on the “happenings,” whereas joy is based on making a decision to place our identity and value in Jesus – just Jesus. Not performance, not numbers, not circumstances, followers, accomplishments, or achievements, but in the fact that we are loved, known and cared for by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. So let’s start the year out with deciding to choose joy, through prayer and fasting, loving, celebrating, and seeking Jesus – who is the Joy Giver and the Joy Sustainer.
Here’s to a joyful 2019 to you and yours!!
