A Note From Dino Rizzo – July 2018

When I look at Jesus’ life, I think about how He was such an inviter. Everywhere He went, He took a genuine interest in people no matter who they were or what they were going through. There was no group or segment of society that He could not or would not reach. He invited all kinds of people to enjoy a meal with Him, travel with Him, and ask Him questions. He was personable and welcoming. He just loved being with people, communicating acceptance to them, and enjoying their company.

I think about how invitations given from the right heart can turn something common or ordinary – like eating dinner – into something so appealing and lovely.

Have you ever gone somewhere that you didn’t feel welcomed? There have been times I’ve gone places and felt like things weren’t ready, like they weren’t prepared for me to come. Oh the difference when someone invites me over to their house and they’ve made my favorite meal – got the whole house smellin’ good – I knew how much they cared.

Jesus was the best at sending good invitations to people, in the way He related to them, in the way He had a genuine interest in their lives, in their hurts, their hopes, and their dreams. He was so appealing to others because of the way He gave His attention to them. If you look at His life on earth, how He spent so many nights just sitting in people’s homes, eating dinner, sharing life – you see He had a genuine interest in them.

Looking at Jesus’ life, I find myself asking: Am I showing a genuine interest in people? Is there a segment of people or population of people that I’m overlooking and could be more inviting to? Lord, help me to follow your example to live an inviting life.
