Pure Gold

December 1 2014

Confession time: I have a minor obsession with bangles, particularly gold bangles. Without fail, every time I wear my bangles — I don’t just stack one or two together, I wear bangles on bangles on bangles. I can’t help myself. The truth be known, my bangles, are what I call “the look not the price” kind of bangles. You know what I mean — they look good, they look gold, but they are far from PURE GOLD.

Call it a stretch, but I believe that our lives are similar to gold. Our lives can be like pure & rich gold or a counterfeit gold.

Let me explain: In order to get PURE GOLD, metal has to go through a process. It is smelted down and then after that it goes through refinement — where the precious & non precious metals are separated.

Our lives are the same.

Job 23.10 says:
He knows the path that I take and after I have been tested I will come out as PURE GOLD.

We go through seasons in our lives that are trying and testing. We have two choices when these seasons of life creep up on us: 1] We can embrace trials and let them refine us so that we may become pure gold or 2] We can avoid the purification process and remain an imitation of gold.

Unlike my cheap unauthentic bangles, God wants to take us as women, wives, pastors, leaders, and friends through a refinement process so that we are genuine, authentic, bona fide gold. God’s desire is for us to be the pure gold, the real deal — not 12 karat gold, gold plated, and definitely not Forever 21 rub-off-on-your-wrist type of gold.

There is no easy way out to PURE GOLD. It takes time, testing & refinement.

I Peter 1.7
“These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold–though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and honor on the day Jesus Christ is revealed.”

If you are going through a time of testing, you are probably feeling the heat; uncomfortable between where are you are and where God is taking you. It is easy to grow discouraged, wondering if you are doing something wrong, or maybe even a little deeper — if you are wrong. When in actuality, you are in the process of God producing a rare and precious treasure in your life: genuine trust in God — in His plan, in His goodness, and in His timing.

During times of testing you have to remind yourself that God has always been faithful. He has big plans in store for you. This season of growth is  not there to hurt you but to make you better! Leadership is not for the faint of heart and often times, challenges come when we least expect them.

Jesus is like the ultimate personal trainer — Jillian Michaels and Tony Horton have nothing on Him. He always pushes us beyond our limits  because he knows our true potential. God is not taking us through a refinement process and pushing us to go deeper to merely prove a point, but so that we can overcome the fears that we have allowed to creep into our lives.

Let your heart be filled with a fresh resolve today. Be assured that every dream and desire that God has placed in your heart will come to pass.
Will it require pressing through a few awkward moments and seasons? Yes, but it is so worth it!

Be encouraged, dear friend. Your life, your leadership, your family, and all the roles you play MATTER. Do not underestimate the season that you are in. While you may be in the fire, God is doing a good work in you. He is in the process of separating the precious and non precious elements in you so that you may come out pure gold. Remember, that God in all of his goodness is faithful.

Stay the course — you are on your way to PURE GOLD.
