Stepping out in Faith

April 1 2013

When we moved to Australia in April last year to plant a church, our family of five had six suitcases in our possession with no idea where we would live, what we would drive, where the kids would go to school and virtually NO IDEA how we would get our first church members.

But, we had a word from God, an idea of our next step, and FAITH.

Almost a year later, I find myself in the same boat with different circumstances.

A word from God, an idea of my next step, and FAITH.

Outside the timeframe of about a week, I’m not sure what steps God will have me take to fulfill the dreams and visions he has given me. I bet your life is the same! His word lights our feet on the path like a lantern, not a floodlight. God’s word is ever-present, yet daily bread. By faith, we must come to him every morning to partake. Thinking we can meet with God once and have the answers for our next few months is like eating breakfast one morning and expecting it to fill us for a few weeks.

Walking by faith means understanding this lamp at our feet (Psalm 119:105). Looking out beyond it means darkness and uncertainty; however, there is great comfort in simply looking down to see what God has placed before us. The safety of the glow of his word keeps us in boundaries and shows us our next step. We must remain hungry for the warmth of His light. Stepping outside it makes us cold and empty. Stepping out in faith doesn’t mean jumping off a cliff. It means remaining in alignment with our guide, trusting God one day, one decision at a time.

I can’t even really explain how we graduated from living room church to now preparing for our formal launch on May 11 – God has done it. I am literally IN AWE at what has transpired!

What word are you standing on by faith? God will speak to you when you seek Him. He promises to guide us step by step into the destiny he has for us. We will not have all the answers. Sometimes His word is practical and feels unspiritual. Other times, it seems so dim we feel like we can’t take the next step at all. Maybe we aren’t supposed to. Or, maybe we have stepped off his lighted path.

Wherever you are in your journey with Christ, you can be assured our God is holding a light out for you. Don’t let fear or doubt cause you to shrink back from your next step of faith. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. (Ephesians 1:18 NLT)
